For this exercise, we will define the scientific method according to the Oxford Dictionaries: "A method of procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses."

Noting that:
"Criticism is the backbone of the scientific method."
"The process is based on presently valid scientific methods."

An example answer, based on the "begging the question" fallacy presented in the video, would include the definition of that fallacy and could be as follows: The begging the question fallacy, which presents a circular argument in which the conclusion is included in the premise, contradicts the scientific method because it does not present a way to test the hypothesis presented.

choose five more logical fallacies and, following the example above, describe how they contradict the scientific method.

Answers

Answer 1

Five more logical fallacies are personal attacks, straw man argument, false dilemma, slippery slope argument, and circular arguments.

Personal attacks, rather than logic, are used in an ad hominem fallacy. This fallacy occurs when someone rejects or criticizes another person's point of view based on their personal characteristics, ethnic background, physical appearance, or other irrelevant characteristics. A straw man argument is a more extreme version of the counter argument that attacks a different subject rather than the topic under discussion. A false dilemma or false dichotomy provides limited options, typically by focusing on two extremes, when more options exist.

A slippery slope argument presumes that a particular course of action will inevitably result in a series of future events. With no supporting evidence, the slippery slope fallacy tends to take a benign assumption or starting point and tends to suggest that it will result to unlikely or ridiculous outcomes. Circular arguments occur when a person's argument repeats previous assumptions without reaching a new conclusion.

Joseph is important because He was appointed Egypt's governor as a result of his skill in deciphering the Pharaoh's dream. He made the smart decision to ration the nation's food supply in case of famine.

Why is Joseph such a big deal in the Bible?

The profound truth that "all things work together for good to [those] who loved God" is vividly illustrated by Joseph's narrative, the son of Jacob who was called Israel. Joseph always seemed to act morally, but what was more crucial was that he always did so for the correct reasons. And what a crucial point it is! Joseph was bought by Potiphar, a captain of Pharaoh's guard, after his brothers sold him as a slave. However, even while serving an indentured master, Joseph made the best of every situation and encounter, despite how difficult they were.

It seems like a heavenly quality to be able to make everything into something good. Our heavenly Father always appears to be able to accomplish this. Whatever the situation, everything is a win in the Lord's eyes.
