How did trade between West and North Africa affect the economic growth of the regions

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

West African economic growth rates have been insufficient in most countries to make significant reductions in poverty. Essentially, West Africa’s farmers and firms produce and trade in highly localized markets and do not achieve the sufficient economies of scale required to attract broad-based investment that could accelerate growth and reduce poverty.

With the arrival of the Industrial Revolution, machines became the main source of power for manufacturing and transportation. These machines were mostly dependent on fossil fuels—oil and coal. The world’s economy shifted from an agrarian-based economy to an oil-based economy. Today many people believe the world needs to shift again from an oil-based economy to a clean-energy economy. Just as the move from an agrarian-based economy to an oil-based economy created a destabilizing effect on the poor and working class, how might the shift to a clean-energy economy affect today’s poor and working class? How will the shift affect less-developed nations in comparison to more-developed nations?

Answers

Answer:

The Missouri Compromise was meant to create balance between slave and non-slave states. With it, the country was equally divided between slave and free states. Admitting Missouri as a slave state gave the south one more state than the north. Adding Maine as a free state balanced things out again.

The Silk Road played a major role in the development of classical cultures. The main purpose of the route was to provide a means for transporting goods--material objects--for sale. However, the most significant effect of the Silk Road was cultural. Civilizations who used the route for trade also brought back new ideas, beliefs, and customs. They used the money they earned while on the Silk Road to build legacies impressive enough that they still affect us today.

Does anything like the Silk Road exist today? If so, will it have the same impact on culture that we see with the Silk Road? On a sheet of scrap paper, make a list of things from life in the 21st century that might have an impact on us that is similar to the impact of the Silk Road on classical civilizations. Your list can consist of objects, locations, events, trends, or activities.

Once you have your list, ask your teacher how to participate in an online discussion for this course. Choose one item from your list, describe it in the online discussion, and explain your reasons for thinking of this item or event as a 21st century Silk Road. Then, read some of your classmates' answers and respond to their ideas.

Answers

Answer:

what's the question??

The answer is Yes. There are many modern-day examples with similarities to the Silk Road, which have similar impacts on culture and commerce. One example worth describing is the Internet.

As mentioned in the question, the Silk roade was a vast network of trade routes used for transporting goods, but the impact of said route spans well beyond just commerce. The Silk route gave rise to new customs in many territories, influenced religious diversity, and led to the creation of economic empires.

Modern-day examples similar to the Silk route are:

The internetTransnational Shipping routesEven the common Shopping mall

All of these have functions and modern-day impacts similar to that of the Silk Route. Transnational shipping routes connect countries from across the globe for the exchange of goods, and transport people (the crews) which give rise to cultural, religious, and romantic interactions between people of various origins. A common shopping mall acts as a location for the exchange of goods and the interaction between diverse groups of people.

Perhaps the most notable example I've given is the Internet, and the one I would choose to describe for an online discussion. The internet connects

culturesreligionsideascustoms

and even economies from across the globe on an unprecedented scale. It allows a person from anywhere in the world, to have access to information regarding any religion or idea. It gives rise to interactions between people from anywhere in the world through the use of social media platforms and is vital to maintain the global level of trade and economic growth we experience today. For these reasons, the Internet is a prime example of a 21st-century Silk Road and would be an excellent choice for your online discussion for your course.

To recap, there are many modern-day examples like the Silk Road, the most important being the Internet because it allows us to connect with people and places all over the world and impacts all aspects of the modern-day world.

The Summer Olympics of 1936 (Indented)
The Summer Olympics of 1936

Berlin Hosts the Olympics of 1936

In April of 1931, the International Olympic Committee, or the IOC, voted to award the 1936 summer games to Berlin, Germany. Adolf Hitler did not become Reich Chancellor of Germany until 1933. Once the Nazi party rose to power, Hitler saw this decision as a chance to show the world that Germany was a successful country. He also saw it as a chance to prove his government right.

Hitler ordered the construction of an enormous sports complex. He also built a new stadium and an Olympic village in which the athletes would stay while in Berlin. Posters that displayed negative images of Jews were removed. The city was decorated with flags displaying the German Swastika. Germany prepared to greet the athletes from the 49 participating nations.

There were several advances made during the eleventh modern Olympics. The Olympic Torch Relay was introduced during the 1936 Games. At the 1928 games, the Olympic flame had been reintroduced to the competition. Hitler, however, had the idea of creating a relay to bring the flame from Greece to Germany. One lone runner entered the stadium during the opening ceremony. He lit the flame in the cauldron that would burn throughout the games and become the symbol of the event. This practice continues today. Another innovation introduced during the games was live television broadcasting. 70 hours of images of the competition were sent to “viewing rooms” throughout the city. Filming practices used during the 1936 Games are still used today.

Germany did well during the games. They received 89 medals. The United States came in second with 56 medals. Italy came in third with 22. Many countries left the games believing that Germany was in good hands.

The Politics of the 1936 Summer Olympics

The International Olympic Committee awarded the 1936 Olympics to Germany in 1931. Hitler and the Nazi Party rose to control the country in 1933. Once rumors of anti-Semitic practices, practices that targeted the Jewish population of the country, and a focus on German superiority began, the IOC became concerned about holding the Games in Berlin. The members of the committee held private discussions about moving the Games from Berlin. In 1934, however, many countries accepted Germany’s invitation to attend the Olympics. The IOC withdrew their concerns.

There was debate, however, in several countries about boycotting the Games. Despite the acceptance of the invitation by the United States, many in the US believed that the Berlin Olympics should be boycotted. Other countries that discussed a boycott included Great Britain, France, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, and the Netherlands. Finally, the decision was made for the U.S. to participate, and the African American athlete Jesse Owens was sent to represent the country in the track and field competitions.

During the Games, Jesse Owens earned international fame with his success. He won four gold medals during the competition. He won the 100-meter race, the 200-meter race, the long jump, and the 4 by 100-meter relay. Despite Hitler’s belief that the German race was superior, Owens proved to the world that African Americans were equal to any challenge.

Imagine that you are an athlete in the crowd viewing the arrival of the Olympic flame. What do you witness?

Write a narrative explaining your experience viewing the arrival of the Olympic flame.

Be sure to:

Establish a context and introduce a narrator and/or characters.
Organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.
Use ideas and details from the passage.
Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, description, and pacing, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.
Use a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence and to signal shifts from one time frame or setting to another.
Provide a conclusion that follows from the experiences or events.
