There are nursing homes across the United states that have been reported of drugging the elderly residents. Older people's rights are not being seen by the government, in fact older people’s rights are almost invisible. And there are only a few people that try to help the older people. The Human Rights Watch has a very interesting article about how older people’s rights are supposed to be equal as everyone else, in fact the government is not treating them that way.

Older people 60 and over around the world are living in low or middle income countries, with a large amount in the Asia pacific region. And we only have some social service workers looking to seek the elderly and help them live with dignity.
There should be more people trying to support the elderly because after all they are wiser. Besides we are all equal and should support each other. And the law states "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Older people should have a say in if they want to take something to calm them down and not be drugged without consent.

Protecting older peoples rights will help them lead dignified and secure lives as equals. They would be treated as equals by the younger people and hopefully the government. If we all took the time to serve or help older people they would be not living in nursing homes they would be living in their own homes. And they would be able to be with family instead of them being treated unfairly in nursing homes. The text states to “provide the necessary, legally binding protection of older people’s rights under international law;”. We should all be trying to protect older people’s rights and should respect them.
The people are pushing for new human rights mechanisms The article says “Political support is growing for new human rights mechanisms at the regional level.” They are pushing for new right mechanisms because they want everyone to be equal Without stereotyping “As the world experiences rapid population ageing, the pressures that result in age discrimination are likely to intensify; so does the imperative to address such discrimination." The article is stating that you should not discriminate on any group of society. We need to respect older people and protect their rights.

So check on your loved ones because you don't want your loved ones being drugged without consent. Older people have the same rights as us so we need to make sure they are being treated that way.
