Being an American is awesome. I feel that I am part of the best country in the whole wide world and feel that we all are blessed with so much freedom in our everyday lives. Many people in the United States are used to hearing themselves as an “American”, but they do not associate it with privilege anymore. Everyone uses the word so often, but they barely know what it means. Many people hate the fact that they live in this country, and they never take the time to realize how blessed they are to live in America. These people are blind to the fact that many others around the world would give anything to be in their shoes, ready for the opportunity to succeed and start a new life.

People in the United States take the freedom this country has to offer for granted. They don’t realize what kinds of freedoms they really have and how unique they are compared to the rest of the world. The word that clearly describes “American” is “Free”. It does not mean that an American can obtain free food, a free car or a free home. Instead it means that a person living in the United States is free to make their own decisions, such as choosing who will run the country. In the United States of America, the people have freedom of speech, religion, the right to vote, the right to keep and bear arms, and ability to travel where and when they want. Here in this country we can decide how to live our lives, without the government breathing down our necks telling us what to do. We can speak our minds about a certain injustice or write about controversial things that many people deem unconstitutional or politically incorrect. In the United States, we have an opportunity to serve our country. We have the chance to give back something to a country that has given us so much. We aren’t forced into the military service, but rather we have a choice whether or not we want to serve. Here in the United States, we are truly blessed with so much. I believe being an American means that we are all part of something truly special and we as Americans carry a certain sense of pride in our country. Freedom of speech and the freedom of religion are prohibited in many countries around the globe but Americans have fought to obtain these rights. America was formed on the idea that religion and speech should not be controlled by the government. Being able to speak out about an injustice is very important for the overall health of a nation. People will always continue to be people. They will lie and cheat to get more and more power. In the United States, we are able to see that and write or speak about it without fear of any retaliation. We have a right to say our minds, a right to say whats on our heart. If someone is the government is doing something that is unconstitutional or illegal, we can say or write whatever we want about it without the fear of being punished.

When the North American colonies were formed in the early seventeenth centuries, people from Europe braved the high seas of the Atlantic Ocean and made their way to the New World where they could practice whatever religion they wanted to. Although The Pledge of Allegiance states that we are “one nation under God” people have the right to choose what religion they wish to practice. Yet, if they choose not to take part in any religion and not to serve any God, they are free to choose and practice what they believe. People are not and will not be prosecuted for their beliefs. Nobody is marginalized because their opinion in religion might be different than others. This is a founding principle of our nation.

In this country we have a right to keep and bear arms, made possible by the second amendment. The second amendment to the constitution, passed in 1791 along with the rest of the bill of rights, made it so the people of this country could “have the right to keep and bear arms”. It is nice to live in a country that permits us to bear arms for ourselves.

1-3 America is still a work in progress. And today, has proved that. We are supposed to be the land of the free, opportunity, advancement, but here we are today, still fighting to go to school, to get better jobs, healthcare, and to be looked at, as the rest of you "privileged" people who were born in the world with the world in your hands. Like, black and brown people aren't born with the OPPORTUNITY to change the world. White people are. They can do whatever they want. They get payed more, and don't get beat on the street. Oh, and straight rights? What rights? We say gay rights not to separate us, but so you can ACKNOWLEDGE us, because you haven't. All lives matter? The people who say that are trying to say "oh well you aren't the only one who is important" like, that's not what we're trying to say at all, and the fact that you still don't understand that proves we're getting no where. Americans are not learning from their mistakes. Americans are not white. It's not like how China is full of Asians, America is not full of white people, it's full of diverse, passionate people. Like people act like by saying "gay rights and black lives matter", then that's us trying to separate us, but that's not at all what we are doing. We are telling you that we are here.

And why is it that America is apparently so great, when our history is that they stole my people's land? I don't celebrate thanksgiving because it's basically a celebration of how they slaughtered and raped my people. Instead, I do festiveus, which is just to celebrate and appreciate each other.

Also, aren't we supposed to be setting an example? Like people have the right to flee to our country and seek protection, but thanks to trump, ICE separates children from their families at the border even right now as we speak. And on top of that, THE ENTIRE WORLD IS WATCHING US. What are they learning from us? What do they see? Violence, destruction, and hate, and greed. America isn't the land of the free! It's the land of greed.

4-7 The US is different, but not special, because we have what a lot of countries have, which is injustice, poverty, inequality, racism, sexism, and more. But yes, we do have more advancement, but how does that matter if we're killing each other every day?

I think every country has patriotism, not just Americans, but to what extent must we stop? We wouldn't riot if you listened. Like America really thinks we're doing this out of nowhere for no reason.

I don't think there is a right answer for being American. Because they're all different, and THAT is what makes America. That we're all so different! :D

Most of these white people's parents immigrated to America. Like, I think trump/s parent's or something were immigrants. The Shepherd’s Lute: A Chinese Folktale

1Long ago in a medieval village, a wealthy but bitter farmer named Chao employed an affable shepherd named Jiang, who truly enjoyed playing the lute. Jiang’s instrument was simple and plain, crafted from the wood of a native bamboo tree. Despite its modest appearance, the lute brought Jiang much joy. He created appealing music that lured the other villagers out to listen to him. Having an audience made Jiang feel accepted, and he quickly formed an important bond with the poor villagers.

2Chao, however, didn’t like Jiang. He hated Jiang’s lute playing and the way the villagers admired Jiang. Although Jiang was an excellent person and a hard worker, Chao fired Jiang from his job and smashed the lute into pieces.

3Miserable and brokenhearted, Jiang hung his head as he walked through the forest. Good fortune soon came to him, however, when he bumped into a compassionate old man who felt sorry for Jiang’s loss.

4The elderly man carved a new lute for Jiang and taught him to refine his playing technique. Soon, Jiang played better than ever before. Villagers and woodland creatures from all over came to hear him perform.

Chao heard gossip of the woodland animals and decided that he wanted to capture a flaxen white rabbit with a spotted head. He promised his farm and his fortune to the son who could capture the specific rabbit for him.

The sons had never laid eyes on such a rabbit before, and they didn’t know where to find one, but because they knew the rabbit would bring them riches, they decided to search for it.

Into the forest went the first son. He approached Jiang and described the mystical rabbit. Jiang said that if the son paid him, he would help him find the rabbit. At first, the son didn’t want to pay. Then he realized that locating the rabbit would earn him his father’s fortune, so he paid Jiang the money.

8Jiang began performing a song on his lute and, upon hearing him, the forest creatures gathered, including the flaxen rabbit! The farmer’s son seized the rabbit, but the creature struggled. Eventually, the rabbit darted back to the woods to hear Jiang play the lute, and the son couldn’t recapture it. The unsuccessful son returned home, upset that he had lost his money.

The other sons remained determined to catch the rabbit, so they too ventured into the woods and paid Jiang to help them attract the creature. As before, however, when Jiang played his lute, the rabbit scampered away.

Chao boiled with anger and scolded his sons for losing their money and failing to catch the rabbit. He finally set out with intentions of unearthing the rabbit by himself.

11As Chao entered the forest, flocks of birds and packs of creatures approached him. He trembled like a leaf in the wind.

“Farmer, beware!” called Jiang. “If I strum my lute, the creatures will attack!”

Chao begged Jiang to save him from this misfortune and promised to do anything.

“You must promise to treat people better and donate half of your possessions to the less fortunate villagers,” Jiang directed.

Chao quickly agreed because he was so terrified, and he followed through on his promise. Satisfied, Jiang continued to work as a shepherd and play his lute.
