This document was issued before the declaration of independence, in which Paine writes in a clear and assecible language, efficiently pondering all points where the English crown is wrong in maintaining colonialism in America. Think about how time affects the characters in the excerpts from "Zulma" and from "Piano Obsession". Write a response analyzing how the authors of each text use the passing of time to develop the points of view of the characters. Use details from both excerpts to support your ideas.

Answers

answer

In, these story’s time affected the characters. The story excerpt “Zulma” explained how a boy waited to play flute with his friend Zulma and while he waited his character was developed further while time was passing. The story “Piano Obsession” showed how a girl fell in love with playing the piano and as time passed she played more and improved her playing which developed her character more than before.

In “Zulma” the use of time passing in the excerpt developed the characters more and more as time went on.  Philippe’s character showed to be hesitant in sending a letter to Zulma when he moved away but he started writing the letter eventually but he wrote it slowly. This shows that he cared about what Zulma thought about him. Also, it shows that he cared about making Zulma happy because he practiced his flute whenever he could so that when she came to visit him he could play with her. You can see that in this piece from the text  “I must work hard,” Philippe told himself, “so that I will be good enough to play duets with Zulma when she comes to stay.” But his hands seemed slow and clumsy, and he was beginning to despair that he would ever be good enough to play with his cousin.” This use of the passing of time also showed that Zulma isn’t good at keeping her promises towards her cousin because she promised to go see him but she never fulfilled this promise. The time passing in this text shows many developments in characters.

In “Piano Obsession” the main character Reem is introduced to the piano by a girl at her refugee camp Raina. She fell in love with the piano and the sounds it made. As time went on she continued to play the piano. As she played the piano her character developed. The passage said As it listened, the piano made my life more equal to what I had hoped it would be. It became my playground, with notes flat as pastures I ran into, notes sharp as mountains I climbed up, and phrases spoken from atop mountains. The piano repaired my days like a sewing machine repairs a dress.” This shows that as Reem continued to play the piano and improving it shows that she loved to play because it made her feel more equal to everyone else and it made her feel free. This developed her character by showing that Reem, was not used to feeling this kind of freedom and fun. She liked the fact there were no rules to plating the piano you just have to play the keys “like and child, would”. There were many character developments as time passed in “Piano obsession”.

In conclusion, In both stories “Piano Obsession” and “Zulma”  the use of time passing developed the point of view of the characters.

Explain why the following are oxymorons:
1.) Act natural
2.) Original copy
3.) Seriously funny
4.) Clearly confused
5.) Jumbo shrimp

Answers

If you act natural it’s not natural

An original COPY isn’t original because it’s a copy of the original

Seriously funny is saying something is seriously funny yet funny is an antonym of serious

Clearly confused is saying that confusion is clear; yet they are both antonyms of each other

Jumbo shrimp is an oxymoron because shrimp are rather small yet they are called jumbo which would usually mean grand or large, but it is saying that the shrimp is large compared to an average sized shrimp. Hope this helps

When kids are tired during class, they have a harder time focusing and can even have behavior problems. There are many reasons kids don’t get enough sleep, including watching too much TV, playing video games, or even doing homework late into the night. This is a big problem, but it’s easy to solve. All kids should have a bedtime of 8:00 PM. This would help make sure no one goes to school without enough sleep. If this rule were enforced, kids would probably not be very happy.

Lincoln's message in his Gettysburg Address was that the living can honor the wartime dead not with a speech, but rather by continuing to fight for the ideas they gave their lives for.

Explanation:

Lincoln's Gettysburg Address was given during the dedication and consecration of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1863. The Civil War was still going on, and Lincoln centers his speech around this, referring to the founding of America "four score and seven years ago" before explaining that the war is a fight to preserve America's existence as a republic (and possibly the existence of America itself).

Lincoln explains that they (the living) cannot consecrate the ground of the battlefield with their words; rather, the dead have done that through their actions.

It is the job of the living to continue their fight, Lincoln explains, "that these dead shall not have died in vain" in their efforts to give America "a new birth of freedom" and so that the government "of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth."
