Answers

Answer:

The word pair that has the same relationship as aluminum:metal is:

lemonade:beverage

Explanation:

Aluminum is a type of metal. In other words, metal is a category of which aluminum is an item. Thus, we need to find a pair in which the first word is connected to the second by the same item:category relationship.

The first option can be easily eliminated. Crime is not a type of punishment. Punishment is the result of crime.

The second option can also be discarded. A bouquet is a collection, a group of flowers.

The third option is the correct one. A lemonade is indeed a type of beverage.

All seventeen years of my life I've never once picked up a book outside of the classroom. No matter how bored I was, no matter who asked me to read, my lack of reading skills discouraged me of ever being fond of reading. Realizing that my eighteenth year is coming up and that I’ll be attending college soon, I’m starting to see just how important having a solid foundation of reading really is. Reading teaches skills in ways that no other subjects can such as analyzing. Because I want to be a computer engineer, I need to be an all around good reader and be able to retain the information I read. I haven't had the chance to be exceptional at reading because of the amount of judgement I received as a child.
The first grade is when I can first recall ever having to read a book. The classroom was full of young minds ready to learn to read. Our teacher was going over some words in the book as the students said them aloud. I can remember having a immense amount of trouble pronouncing the words, so after school I went home to ask my parents for help. When I arrived at my front door I was greeted with hugs and kisses, like always, but to my dissatisfaction, I noticed that my parents had no motive to help me with my reading. I begged them all night to listen to me; I wanted to be able to go back to school and read like all the other students. I felt alone and deeply angered, trying to find other means of help, but there were none.
In the third grade I faced a challenge. At my school we had a reading system called ‘AR reading’. There were a variety of books with many different colored dots on the spines, each color being a different skill level. The only books I wanted to read were fantasies because they gave me an escape from the real world. The books I craved most were marked at a level much higher than mine, and once again my lack of skill and experience in reading angered me. The kids in my class were going through the reading levels like normal, but I wasn’t. I struggled to find books that I could get sucked into and enjoy, but the books I was capable of reading were childish and meant to entertain a mind much younger than mine. I couldn't ever get into reading these books because although I was maturing along with everyone else, my reading abilities were not improving. Instead of trying to get better, I quit.
A year later, in the fourth grade, I learned to hate reading the most. Everyday in language class my classmates and I would read small passages from our school books in a “popcorn reading” style; the kids would read a small section then pass it to a different student to read. I would sit in the back, dreading the thought of my teacher even possibly uttering the words “pull out your books!” but every day, around the same time, she would say it. I knew what would happen if I was called upon to read; embarrassment to the highest degree. I’d never felt more discouraged in my life than when I had to read in front of people, the whispers of classmates behind me as I stumbled over words and ravaged pronunciations; I could feel them judging me. I never wanted to read. Knowing that people were making fun of me killed my drive to be an exceedingly good reader. I was so confused on why I couldn't get what I was saying in my head while reading, out of my mouth. I practiced and practiced, but could never get it right, and still no one would help me. That whole year my classmates would call on me and then laugh at me as I fumbled over my words. The teacher did not stop them, and I could not defend myself against their cruelty.
Throughout my childhood I struggled with reading. In this past year I finally decided to reach out for help for one last time, and to my surprise, help was given. For the past 12 years of school I had struggled, and now in my senior year, I found the reason why. I had dyslexia. Having had no idea what was wrong with me until my last year of high school, I was bothered. No one had reached out to try and help, and here I was with a large obstacle I could have overcome years ago. Now, as I sit here at the end of my primary educational career, I am thankful. I spent years struggling, but now I am equipped with the tools to push hard through tough battles. Reading did not teach me to find deeper meanings or to be a literary expert. Reading taught me to be hardworking, persistent, and to never lose sight of a goal that you really want, because every goal is achievable.

Far, far away lay a small farm with all the animals you would expect, horses, cows, dogs, and cats. Mary Jonson and her brother, Luckes were wandering around the old run-down house in which they lived. They went to the old Oak tree, on top of Cherry hill. The tiny hill overlooked the little graveyard in town. Mary was scared of the small patch of land by the old church.
They reached the top of the hill where Mary could hear a soft humming noise from inside the old tree. She saw the small beehive at the top of the tree. She knew why her brother brought her here at the top of the small hill. See, Luckus´s class was learning about honey bees, and for most of the summer break, he had been leading her to where he had found the small buzzing, bright yellow insects.
It was very comfortable at the top of the hill. The hot summer day was coming to an end, and twilight was upon them and a soft breeze was ruffling their hair . Meanwhile luckus was staring at the small hive in awe.
Mary sat down on the warm yellowing grass and looked down in the small graveyard. She could see a man walking down one of the rows of the old worn down gravestones. He was holding a bouquet of bright red flowers that she could see at the top of the hill.
She laid back on the grass and looked up at the soft orange sky. Mary was fifteen years old and her brother was nine. Mary had been homeschooled for her whole life while her brother was going to the public school down in town. Her parents had decided that she should go too.
It was the last day of summer break and tomorrow would be the first day of school. She lay on her back, thinking about the next day and what it would bring.
Seeing Mary would be what other kids thought to be odd she thought her first day would not be that enjoyable. She had fiery red hair that she often braided with flowers. Her face was covered in freckles and she had big round glasses that covered her big green eyes. Her brother had the same look about him. They could be twins if they weren't born six years apart.
She lay there in a doze, on the itchy grass when her brother had let out a yelp and she sat up. She turned and looked at her brother who was holding his left hand. He had tears in his bright green eyes.
´´Ẃhat happened!´´ Mary she said, turning on her heels and walked over to her brother
´´I..I...w...was...p..playing with...t...the bees´´ He said thru bug sobs. ´´ A...and...o..one of...of...them...c...came...and...and...STUNG...ME...ME!´´
Her brother was on his knees now, and sobbing.
¨Ok, ok...¨ Said Mary helping luckus up off his knees.¨ let's get back to the house. Then mom can fix you right up.¨
They both got up and started walking down the hill towards the house. They pushed open the front door and walked into the kicken.

"I didn't see any kind of racist overtone to it," she said. "I still don't. I think there is such a hypersensitivity to race still in this country." What does Christa Thomas say is the real cause of people’s concern about the Vogue cover?

Answers

Christa Thomas is claiming that people are concerned about nothing. Their hypersensitivity about race makes them critical of the cover. Although the cover was not intended to be racist, according to the accountant, people have found a way to perceive it as racist by being somewhat racist themselves. They needlessly connect the representation of James to a racist stereotype of black men. I’m not racist!! Hope this helps!

Expository writing prompt in the house of mango street Esperanza describes a likeable character in a vignette. In a well written essay , explain how Cisneros uses literary elements such as diction and figurative language to portray a character's traits.

Answers

Answer:The Power of Language

Explanation:Throughout The House on Mango Street, particularly in “No Speak English,” those who are not able to communicate effectively (or at all) are relegated to the bottom levels of society. Mamacita moves to the country to be with her husband, and she becomes a prisoner of her apartment because she does not speak English. She misses home and listens to the Spanish radio station, and she is distraught when her baby begins learning English words. His new language excludes her. Similarly, Esperanza’s father could not even choose what he ate when he first moved to the country, because he did not know the words for any of the foods but ham and eggs. Esperanza’s mother may be a native English speaker, but her letter to the nuns at Esperanza’s school is unconvincing to them in part because it is poorly written.

Esperanza observes the people around her and realizes that if not knowing or not mastering the language creates powerlessness, then having the ability to manipulate language will give her power. She wants to change her name so that she can have power over her own destiny. Her Aunt Lupe tells her to keep writing because it will keep her free, and Esperanza eventually understands what her aunt means. Writing keeps Esperanza spiritually free, because putting her experiences into words gives her power over them. If she can use beautiful language to write about a terrible experience, then the experience seems less awful. Esperanza’s spiritual freedom may eventually give her the power to be literally free as well.

What is preventing equity and equality?

Answers

Greed and ignorance are preventing equality and equity. People are a ways going to be power hungry and will do whatever they can to stay in power ever if that means they need to hinder growth of society. Greed results in stepping on other people to get what you want even if that means you will in turn make them feel and maybe be seen as less than and not equal to you. Ignorance leads to ignoring others problems for your own comfort and not acknowledging others struggles. As they say, ignorance is bliss especially when it gives you advantages in society.
