Read the article below. When you are finished, write a summary to submit for this assignment. Nights and Dragons —from the memoir of author Abigail Prynne 1 I sit at my desk listening to thunder growl outside my window. Flashes of light burst through the darkness, and wind races past my window. The thrilling combination of sight and sound conjures up visions of dragons roaring proudly, breathing fire, and soaring across the midnight sky. Dragons first fascinated me when I was a little girl. They have followed me ever since. The magnificent creatures appeared in storybooks I read in the library, paintings I saw in museums, movies I watched in the theater, and the dreams I had in my sleep. By the time I was thirteen, one question consumed me. Determined to discover if dragons could have actually existed, I set out on a quest for facts. 2 As I started my research, I discovered many skeptics. Scientists presented evidence to show why dragons could not – and did not – exist. They explained that it would be impossible for dragons to fly because they were too big. They laughed at the idea of dragons breathing fire. They pointed out that no other animal has ever done this. They said that if dragons had lived, someone would have found remains somewhere in the world. No bones about it, there were plenty of logical explanations. It would have been easy for me to accept that the only place dragons ever existed was in the imaginations of those who believed. 3 I could have given up, but I thought about my grandmother. She always told me that "people who believe that science is the answer to everything are missing out on everything else." With her words in mind, I read more about dragons. I noticed that cultures across the world all described dragons in similar ways. This was odd because they had no way to communicate with each other. I found notes about dragons in old legal papers and in the travel logs of people like Marco Polo. Dragons were also mentioned in the Bible. I saw that the Chinese calendar uses a different animal each year. Dragons are included along with eleven real animals. I began to believe it was a real possibility that all of these people were talking about a creature that actually existed. 4 With renewed hope that there was some truth to the legends, I looked for new research. I found that some experts disagreed with popular arguments against dragons. They suggested that a dragon could have four stomachs like a cow. If it created stomach gases like birds, it might create enough to lift itself off the ground. This would give it the ability to fly. If it forced out air when diving toward the earth, it might release gases which could ignite into flame. When the animal died, the stomachs would release strong acids that would dissolve its dead body over time. Biologists backed up these ideas with sketches and models based on known animals. Not everyone agreed with these ideas, but many of the things we accept about dinosaurs and other extinct species started the same way. 5 I doubt we will ever truly know whether dragons existed. There may always be two sides to the fiery debate. Some will say the stories come from active imaginations. Some will believe with all their hearts that the legendary creatures roamed our ancient world. I don't know for certain which side to believe, but the sound and fury of a night like this makes me smile. It rekindles my childhood dreams and keeps the exciting possibility alive.

Hi. You forgot to say that these questions are about "President Johnson's Special Message to the Congress: The American Promise".

Answer and Explanation:

1. Among Johnson's main reasons and statements, we can state that he emphasized the need for the American people to see racism and racial injustices within the country as a problem for all citizens, white and black, as well as being a responsibility of America itself and all its people to fight it. He further states that it is useless for America to be strong and prosper, if it does not promote the lobbying and equality of all its people, because when freedom and equality is denied to blacks, Americans are denying America and dishonoring the people who fought for it to exist. Finally, it shows that the government, as an act of commitment to democracy, should be responsible for promoting racial equality in the country, but also for supporting the most needy citizens, promoting education, housing, food and health for black people, that equality was really established.

2. These reasons and evidences proclaimed by Johnson are presented in a very strong way, since America has several cases of social inequality, prejudice and racism that promoted several demonstrations, revolts and protests with bad results. These results are not the fault of Protestants, but of an intolerant population and a selective government.

3. I did not recognize any irrelevant evidence in Johnson's speech, on the contrary I believe that the whole speech was based on the reality in which the country was at that time and that can be recognized in this time in which we live. This makes the entire speech relevant and efficient in its arguments.

4. Upon hearing the speech, I started to copy the most relevant topics, when I thought the speaker said something impactful. This allowed me to read these topics and understand the strongest claims of the speech, thus understanding its theme and the point of view of the speaker. Among my notes can be found the topics: prosperity is worthless without racial equality, racism dishonors the dead and denies America, racism is an American problem, blacks need to have their rights guaranteed, but this must be done with social aid that promotes the necessary resources for them.

Is this a goof story
Once upon a time, a man who went by the name of “the discovered” woke up not feeling so good but decided to ignore it and go by with his day. He looked at his agenda and saw that he didn't have any plans for today, which was weird since he always at least has one thing planned for the day. It took awhile to decide but he chose to go to the desert and try to discover something new. When he got there he saw a lot of animals far away from where he was and just continued walking. After walking for a couple of hours he saw a bigfoot print it was not an animal but a person just ten times bigger than an actual person. While he was trying to see if they left a cule the floor started shaking, it was the animals running towards him. He knew at that moment that he should have stayed home. This all happened in the course of four to five hours it was just like a dream.

The discover was scared but excited at the same time. He didt move and decide to let the animals run toward him. But suddenly the shaking stopped, and the animals disappeared so did the footprint. He was very confused and just looked around to try and prosec what happened. Then it cliked he had a dream two days ago and the exct same thing happend. In his deam everything stared too disaper and he couldent help nobody. He stared to run home to see if it was too late or if he could try and help. He was socked that this was happenig the same way in his dream.

Wen he got home some of the house were disapring he was deciponted in him self. He tought that it was all his foult and that he deciponted everyone. Then a lound bang and woke up he was even more counfusd. After looking aurond for a couple minets he notice that it was all a dream. Answer:

As Pete and Malia headed out the door on their way to the convention, they almost forgot the money they would need to get in there.

They were very excited to buy the latest edition of their favorite comic book by their favorite author.

Explanation:

Homophones are words that are pronounced the same way but have different meanings (and sometimes spelling).

In the first sentence, there are two homophones: their and there. Their is a word used to describe that something belongs to them (Pete and Malia's way - their way). There is the opposite of here and means at that place (get into the convention - get in there).

The second pair of homophones is buy and by. To buy is a verb that means to purchase something. By is a preposition used to state who is performing a certain action (a comic book by their favorite author - their favorite author wrote the book they are buying).

What is the difference between subjective and objective writing?

Answers

Answer:

There are many criteria that can be used to determine the way a text is written, and one of them is whether it's written subjectively or objectively.

When it comes to subjective writing, the displayed information is based on just one person’s (the narrator's) feelings, assumptions, and opinions. If we're reading a story that is written as a first-person narrative, it's definitely subjective.

Objective writing is the opposite. The information the writer provides is based on facts, uninfluenced by their opinions or feelings. Third-person narratives are often written like this, but not necessarily.

Answer:Subjective is based in the writers point of view and their opinions. It is what they see and think about it. Objective is more about the facts and what is 100 percent true.
