The Battle of Bunker Hill was the first major battle of the American Revolutionary War and it started in June 1775.

Answers

Answer:

On June 17, 1775, New England soldiers faced the British army for the first time in a pitched battle. Popularly known as "The Battle of Bunker Hill," bloody fighting took place throughout a hilly landscape of fenced pastures that were situated across the Charles River from Boston

The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought on Saturday June 17, 1775 during the Siege of Boston in the first stage of the American Revolutionary War.[5] The battle is named after Bunker Hill in Charlestown, Massachusetts, which was peripherally involved in the battle. It was the original objective of both the colonial and British troops, though the majority of combat took place on the adjacent hill which later became known as Breed's Hill.[6][7]

On June 13, 1775, the leaders of the colonial forces besieging Boston learned that the British were planning to send troops out from the city to fortify the unoccupied hills surrounding the city, which would give them control of Boston Harbor. In response, 1,200 colonial troops under the command of William Prescott stealthily occupied Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill. During the night, the colonists constructed a strong redoubt on Breed's Hill, as well as smaller fortified lines across the Charlestown Peninsula.[8]

By daybreak of June 17, the British became aware of the presence of colonial forces on the Peninsula and mounted an attack against them that day. Two assaults on the colonial positions were repulsed with significant British casualties; the third and final attack carried the redoubt after the defenders ran out of ammunition. The colonists retreated over Bunker Hill, leaving the British[9] in control of the Peninsula.[10]

The battle was a tactical, though somewhat Pyrrhic, victory for the British,[11][12] as it proved to be a sobering experience for them; the British incurred many more casualties than the Americans had sustained, including many officers. The battle had demonstrated that inexperienced militia were able to stand up to regular army troops in battle. Subsequently, the battle discouraged the British from any further frontal attacks against well defended front lines. American casualties were comparatively much fewer, although their losses included General Joseph Warren and Major Andrew McClary, the final casualty of the battle.[13]

The battle led the British to adopt a more cautious planning and maneuver execution in future engagements, which was evident in the subsequent New York and New Jersey campaign, which arguably helped rather than hindered the American forces, as their new approach to battle was actually giving the Americans greater opportunity to retreat if defeat was imminent. The costly engagement also convinced the British of the need to hire substantial numbers of Hessian auxiliaries to bolster their strength in the face of the new and formidable Continental Army.

Question 1: How is the establishment of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) connected
to the social conditions depicted in the photograph?
Question 2: How is the Wall Street Crash of 1929 connected to the social conditions depicted in the photograph?

Answers

The picture indicated above was taken during the Great Depression.

The Works Progress Administration - an employment and infrastructure initiative by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935 to help arrest the effect of the depression.

Was the WPA successful?

According to historical facts and records, WPA achieved the construction of over four thousand new schools, one hundred and thirty new hospitals, the construction of about fourteen thousand five hundred kilometers of storm drains and sanitary sewer lines, twenty-nine bridges, one hundred and fifty new airfields, over four hundred and fifty kilometers of new roads, and the planting of twenty-four million trees.

It is clear from the above, that lots of money were injected into the economy. The WPA received bad publicity on the account of inefficient administration.

However, the choice to hire manual labor rather than the use of methods and machines that saved cost was intentional. This was done so that more people could be hired.

What was the connection between the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression?

The crash of Wall Street was not the singular reason for the great depression. However, it helped to make things worse.

At this time, over 50 percent of the banks in America had failed, thus adding to the unemployment.

How did Der Fuhrer (The Leader-Adolf Hitler) make himself supreme? How did he achieve TOTAL control of Germany? What tools did he use to make this happen?

Answers

Hitler’s rise to power started when he became politically involved and joined the Deutsche Arbeiterspartei. From there he worked himself up in the party, which later became the Nazi Party, through charm, violence and cunning negotiations. He was an excellent speaker and surrounded himself with people who, like him, were not afraid to use violence to fulfil their political objectives. At one stage, Hitler recognized that he was one of the best speakers in the Nazi party and demanded that they make him party leader or he would walk out. They conceded and he became party leader. Hitler became Führer when Hindenburg died, Hitler declared himself jointly president, chancellor and head of the army. Members of the armed forces had to swear a personal oath of allegiance not to Germany, but to Hitler. This formally made Hitler the absolute ruler of Germany.

Two features of hyperinflation

Answer:

ExplanThroughout the war, the value of the German currency, the Reichsmark, fell considerably. In 1914, one British pound was equal to twenty German marks. In 1919, one British pound was equal to 250 marks. To try and meet the requirements of government spending and alleviate the post-war situation, the government had little choice but to print more money. This in fact made the inflationary situation worse and again reduced the value of the Reichsmark.

Meanwhile, in the midst of this economic crisis, Germany continued to attempt to pay the reparations as dictated by the Treaty of Versailles. The reparations had to be paid in gold marks, which maintained its value, whilst the German currency declined. This made it more and more expensive to pay.

In 1922, Germany requested permission to suspend their payments whilst their economy recovered. This was refused by the Allies. By 1923, Germany reached breaking point as inflation started to run out of control. They were unable to continue paying reparations.

On the 9 January 1923, in response to the lack of payment of reparations, France and Belgium invaded the Ruhr. The Ruhr was a region of Germany which contained resources such as factories. The French and Belgians intended to use these resources to make up for the unpaid reparations.

German factory workers refused to co-operate with the occupying French and Belgian armies. With the German governments support, the workers went on strike. The French sent in their own workers, and arrested the leaders of the German strikers and the German police. This led to violence on both sides.

With the French and Belgian occupation of the Ruhr, goods in Germany became even more difficult to obtain, and therefore very expensive. To fix this problem and pay the striking Ruhr workers, the government again printed more money. This led to hyperinflation.

By the autumn of 1923 a loaf of bread cost 200,000,000,000 marks. Workers paid by the hour found their wages were worthless, because prices had risen since they began their shifts. The situation was critical.ation:

How does Henry Clay’s goal with the National Bank contribute to improving the nation’s industrial economy?

Answers

Answer:

The American System was a program for economic development championed in the era following the War of 1812 by Henry Clay, one of the most influential members of Congress in the early 19th century. Clay's idea was that the federal government should implement protective tariffs and internal improvements and a national bank should help develop the nation's economy.

Clay's basic argument for the program was that by protecting American manufacturers from foreign competition, ever-increasing internal markets would spur American industries to grow. For example, companies in the Pittsburgh region could sell iron to manufacturers on the East Coast, replacing iron imported from Great Britain. Various other regions of the country sought protection from imports that could undercut them in the marketplace.
