Jackie Robinson: Baseball Hero
man.
Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919. When Jackie was in school, he played many sports. He ran track and played football, baseball, and basketball. But Jackie had a difficult time because he was black. Most of the people in Jackie’s school were white. Most of his teammates were white. Even though Jackie was a star player, people did not want him on the team. They called him terrible names. Sometimes they threw garbage at him.
After he finished school, Jackie became a pro baseball player. But he could not play in Major League Baseball. Major League was only for white players. Instead, Jackie played in the Negro League. This was a league just for black players. He played on a team called the Kansas City Monarchs.
Soon, people in Major League Baseball heard about what a great player Jackie Robinson was. A man named Branch Rickey went to talk to Jackie. Branch was the general manager for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Branch wanted Jackie to play for his team.
On April 15, 1947, Jackie joined the Brooklyn Dodgers. He became the first African American to play Major League Baseball. This made many racist people furious. Once again, Jackie had to deal with people swearing at him and treating him badly. Some people even threatened to kill Jackie because they did not want him playing. But through all of this, Jackie stayed strong. He never lost his temper. He never quit playing. Instead, he stayed focused on the game. That year, Jackie helped the Dodgers win the pennant. Jackie was even named Rookie of the Year.
Jackie went on to become a very successful baseball player. He hit 137 home runs and had 197 stolen bases. He played in the All-Star game six times and was named the League MVP in 1949. In 1962, he was named to the Baseball Hall of Fame. But more importantly, he served as a role model for people of all races. Jackie Robinson was brave, strong, and determined. He was a great player and a great man.

Read the passage from Sugar Changed the World. Which statement best summarizes this passage? The year is 326 B.C. Alexander the Great stands at the Indus River in what is now Pakistan. For a decade he and his Greek soldiers have been battling their way across the known world, defeating even the mighty Persians, rulers of Asia. Alexander's string of victories only feeds his hunger to conquer all, to know all. But his men balk. Tired of fighting, homesick, they refuse to go on. Alexander realizes he cannot continue to conquer Asia, but he is too curious to stop exploring. He has already built a fleet of eight hundred ships, appointed his close friend Nearchus captain, and sent them to investigate the coast of India by sea. O Nearchus was the captain of a fleet of ships that Alexander the Great had built. O Alexander the Great was victorious over formidable opponents in his conquests. O Alexander the Great worked only with friends he trusted, such as Nearchus. O Alexander the Great continued exploring even though his Greek soldiers quit.

Write a journal entry in which you pretend to be a person traveling through the North, as depicted in The Call of the Wild, for a year. Write three paragraphs as if they are three separate diary entries, from the perspective of this traveler. Your writing should explain events from three different periods of time within the year (days, months, or seasons). Pay close attention to the words you use to show that time is passing in your diary.
Your response should be at least 150 words in total.
Answer:
As I make my way through the North I realize exactly how much snow there is. The leafless green trees are covered in fluffy white snow. The air is so cold that I can see my breath in the air when I speak. By the time I made my way up to the camp and gotten the dogs settled it was already dark outside. That's something new for me. It seems so much darker up here than it does back home.
The snow is almost all melted and the trees are starting to grow leaves. The weather is still cold, but not cold enough for me to see my breath in the air when I speak. The ice on the lake is too thin to travel on at this point so I have to take longer routes to get to where I need to be.
The snow is completely melted and the lake water is warm enough for me to swim in. I no longer need a coat or a jacket when I go outside. The air is humid and hot at all times and it doesn't much rain anymore. The trees are full of brightly colored leaves. The farmers can grow all the crops that their hearts desire.

Winter, Day 3
Water’s about gone, food is still dry, and winter air is cold. The trail was looking clearer then usually that day so I had decide to ride longer on the covered wagon than I usually do. When I got to a nice clearing to look for shelter and a place to rest the horses, I saw a cave. When I made it halfway into the cave as I was making sure no one was home, there flowed some sparkling, clear, wonderful looking water. I got out my canteen and filled it up until it was overflowing. I then motioned the horses to come and they drank and so did I. I never knew water could taste this good.
Spring, Day 95
It had gotten a lot warmer from when we had left that cave, which by now was probably miles and miles away. Flowers had started to bloom because it was so warm and lots of animals could be seen now. I was able to hunt more animals which provided me lots of food like steak, pork, etc. The water was not frozen/ice anymore. I was able to solve my food and water problem.
Summer, Day 183
Almost to my destination, I am excited to arrive. We had to take a small break because the horses were exhausted and very hungry. When we got back on the ride and after a few miles, I smelt the smoke from a fireplace and I knew.....that I was very very close to seeing my mother and father. I hadn't seen them in a long time because of traveling so much.

What inference can be drawn about Jonas?
The patient has become friends with his therapist.
The patient is a competitive and talented athlete.
The patient is cooperative and determined.
The patient is frustrated with his slow progress.
In this question, the text is missing; here is the missing section:
Read the paragraph below.
Jonas entered the gym and waved to Fiona, his physical therapist. With her guidance, he walked across the floor with a walker, gently putting weight on his injured leg. Then he sat on the bench and lifted the weight she recommended. On the final repetition, he gritted his teeth in discomfort. Finally, he allowed her to demonstrate two new stretching exercises that would restore his flexibility. He tried each one dutifully and assured her that he would perform them every night.
The answer to this question is The patient is cooperative and determined
Explanation:
In this paragraph, the narrator describes the actions of Jonas as he goes to the gym after having a serious injury in his leg. In this, details such as "with her guidance" and "He tried each one dutifully" show Jonas is cooperative because he is following every one of the instructions of the physical therapist.
Moreover, in this text the narrator shows Jonas as determined, this can be inferred in details such as "assured her that he would perform them every night" because Jonas seems quite determined to recover and due to this, he goes to the gym and follows the instructions of the therapist. According to this, it can be inferred he is cooperative and determined.

A simple word may be a better choice because an ICE (Introduce, Cite and Explain your Evidence) article is only introducing to the reader. You do not want to make it too complicated, because then the reader will not understand what the article is saying.

Answer:

Infinite Jest is a novel written by American writer David Foster Wallace in 1996. It has been categorized as an encyclopedic novel.
In the given excerpt, the narrator mentions the names of many important philosophers: D anish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard (the first existentialist philosopher), French-Algerian philosopher Albert Camus (widely known by his book The Myth of Sisyphus), English philosopher Thomas Hobbes (considered to be one of the founders of modern political philosophy), Genevan philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau (known for his contributions during the period of Enlightenment), German philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (one of the fundamental figures of modern Western philosophy). how can names represent our heritage and Who We Are
Answer: Names can represent a family line generation. Names can be passed on from generation to generation. Like if someone were to have a name give to them from their ×3 great grand mother then that can be a part of who you are and your heritage. Heritage means to be inherited, so if your name was passed down into you then that is a part of who you are.
Explanation: Think of this, if heritage means to be inherited (passed on) then that means that names can be your heritage and and can be a significant part of who you are. I hope this helped!!
